Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust – enhancing care and connectivity at Broomfield Hospital

As part of our ongoing partnership with the Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, Broomfield Hospital has recently completed a major wireless network upgrade, installing approximately 1,200 new wireless access points. This upgrade ensures staff, patients, and visitors now have access to a reliable, secure, stable, and faster Wi-Fi connection.

“Having a robust Wi-Fi connection is a huge milestone,” said Dr Laura Harding, Medical Director for Broomfield Hospital. “It helps us use the increased range of healthcare systems and access critical patient data more quickly, resulting in more efficient care for patients. We can now focus on using more technology in the future without worrying about connection speeds and accessibility problems.”

The wireless network transformation was needed to improve coverage and support the upcoming rollout of a new Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (ePMA) platform planned for later this year. In Theatres, Chief Clinical Information Officer and Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine and Anaesthesia, Dr Dilshan Arawwawala, said: “Since the Wi-Fi went live, we’ve noticed a significant improvement when accessing many systems, particularly in areas where we’ve never had Wi-Fi before. This is transformative for our team.” Denise Townsend, Director of Nursing added: “Staff are ecstatic with this improvement. Previously, uploading patient observations into our system took several minutes, but it is now instantaneous, saving us a lot of time and frustration.”

Improving Wi-Fi speed and reliability offers crucial support for clinicians, enabling faster access to a wider range of healthcare systems and critical patient data. This enhancement helps them perform their duties more efficiently, ultimately improving patient care. Visitors also benefit from a smoother, more secure network connection experience. With accessibility concerns addressed, the focus can now shift towards integrating the latest technological advancements.
