Block has announced the appointment of Chris Willetts as Chief Executive Officer, as part of a planned leadership transition that sees Marc Chang move into the role of Founder.
Chris has been with Block for almost three years as CFO and brings more than a decade of experience in technology and digital transformation. During his time at the company, he has worked closely with teams across the organisation and with clients, developing a deep understanding of Block’s culture, values, and ways of working. As CEO, Chris will lead the day-to-day running of the business.
“I’m proud to be stepping into the CEO role and to build on what the team has achieved over the past few years,” said Chris Willetts. “Block has a great culture, deep technical capability, and a clear sense of purpose. My focus is on continuing to deliver exceptional outcomes for our clients, while growing the business in a way that is thoughtful, scalable, and true to who we are.”
After nearly 20 years since founding Block, and the past eight years as CEO, Marc will transition into the role of Founder. In this position, he will focus on the future direction of the business, including strategy, innovation, and long-term growth.
“This feels like the right moment for both me and the business,” said Marc Chang. “It gives Block a strong leadership structure for the next phase of our journey. I’m genuinely delighted to have Chris stepping into the CEO role. He understands Block extremely well and is the right person to lead the business forward. This change simply makes us stronger, more focused, and better placed to support our clients over the long term.”
The transition reflects Block’s long-term commitment to continuity, stability, and trusted client partnership.
