Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust – driving excellence in rehabilitation

Staff at Linden Lodge have been heavily involved in shaping digital trials to ensure smart technologies meet the needs of the new National Rehabilitation Centre, a purpose-built 70-bed facility being built near Loughborough and set to open in Summer 2025.

By supporting us with the recent digital trials, staff are helping make sure the new National Rehabilitation Centre has the best possible technology to provide the optimal environment for intensive rehabilitation.

The approach challenges the traditional ‘top-down’ approaches to technology implementation within the NHS – instead, fostering innovation from the bottom-up by giving frontline staff the time and support to safely test the technology in real-world scenarios.

Enhancing patient welfare

Equipment tracking, artificially intelligent CCTV and voice-activated environmental controls are just some of the technologies being trialled and supporting better outcomes such as:

  • Improved response times and fewer falls – Ascom Smart Nurse Call uses digital technology to provide real-time data and visualise a 360° view of patients within single occupancy rooms
  • Making it easier for staff to find what they need – Kio Nurse from Kontact.io is the smart way to locate medical devices, with everything staff need at their fingertips
  • Providing engagement and infotainment solutions – supporting patient recovery, SPARK Fusion enables staff to be more efficient, as well as entertains and informs patients, for better outcomes

To facilitate access to these new smart technologies, Block is helping the Trust to deploy a medical grade Cisco Network & Unified Communications platform, suitable for the demands of a state-of-the-art clinical facility.
