‘Creating an NHS fit for the 21st Century.’ This was the mandate set out by the Health Secretary in 2015 following a joint review with Martha Lane Fox. The report detailed four major recommendations including the ‘provision of WiFi for patients across all providers of health and social care,’ which has been recommended and supported by NHS England and the National Information Board.
“Digital health tools can dramatically improve people’s lives and wellbeing. These bold challenges to the system to ensure that every person in the UK benefits are very welcome, and will galvanise work already underway to put power in the hands of patients, enabling them to take control of their care and improve their health.”
Tim Kelsey, NIB & NHS England Director of Patient Information.
Since this announcement the NHS has published the General Practice Forward View and provided further supporting information in the NHS WiFi Programme.
